Transformative teaching tips… Let’s talk about humans’ favorite transformation mascot: the butterfly. Caterpillars are moving on instinct when they build their cocoons and settle in for a spell. They don’t get a pamphlet that tells them what to do and why, and no one makes any promises to them about what happens next. They don’t go into the transformation knowing they’ll turn into beautiful butterflies or that, on the way there, they’ll pretty much melt into jelly as part of the metamorphosis process. They just take one step at a time and trust their instincts.

Detachment while witnessing and acknowledging the beauty and richness of all human dilemmas is key to practicing compassion. When you attach yourself to another’s circumstances or emotional experiencing, you begin to swim in their soup. This is valuable if you are practicing empathy. But in this practice of coaching you need to remain detached and neutral in order to speak and listen with discriminating aptitude and capability. Much like an athletic coach, who stays on the side lines, our job is to stay out of the client’s soup. It’s a tricky place to play in, this fierce compassion. It’s a balance of being strong and being soft. As a friend of mine described it, it’s being an iron fist in a silk glove. Think of people who work in emergency situations. They remain clearly detached and focused on their intention of bringing support to people in need. And, at the same time they are so aware of the delicate balance between life and death and the fragileness of our humanity. They are so careful with a person who is physically broken, not wanting to contribute to the pain and suffering already being endured.

Transformational coaching now, and in the future, is being shaped by what’s gone before. Coaching, per se, still has a relatively young history. However, already we’re waving goodbye to some of the more dinosaur methods of old. Instead, coaching is becoming an increasingly professional endeavour, as it really should. We’re not there yet. There are still lessons to be learned, and changes to be made to transformational coaching itself. Interview candidates thoroughly. Judiciously interview several business coaches; this will increase your odds of finding the right match for you. This decision is as critical as selecting the right attorney and financial advisor. You want to be cautious and patient. Draft a list of interview questions. To find a fitting coach for your business, you’ll want detailed answers to specific questions. Questions you’ll likely want to ask include: What is your background in business? What is your experience coaching business owners? What credentials do you have in coaching or in other related fields? What is your personal coaching style? With what kind(s) of clients do you work best? What are the business issues in which you are most qualified?

Finally, a blended approach can save you valuable time from collecting training feedback in a physical environment. Blended learning for corporate training allows you to gather valuable data about your employees’ performance improvement via online quizzes and tests, whereas your Learning Management System can itself generate feedback in the form of automatic reports. Moreover, a blended learning approach can help you measure the effectiveness of your overall training program, as feedback from employees cannot only be used as an indication of their performance levels, but also as a training strategy evaluation tool. Problem Solving Tip: Look at All the Answer Choices Before Solving: This is generally a better strategy than solving the problem right away and then looking for a choice that matches your solution, as the choices themselves can provide clues to how to solve the problem—especially if there’s a property or shortcut that can help you do so. For example, if a question appears to ask you to multiply many large numbers together but the answer choices are all in exponent form and are all an order of magnitude away, then you might be able to just estimate and find the closest answer. Work around the boredom: One of the biggest challenges for business school applicants is shifting gears to the verbal portion of the test. After all, many b-school applicants feel their strength lies in number crunching. In addition, the reading comprehension passages can be boring and laborious to get through, says Yim. “You are not reading to learn content – don’t obsess over details,” he adds. “Instead, focus on the author’s purpose and never forget your primary goal in reading comp, which is to earn points. Most questions will ask you to consider the author’s opinion and tone. This is the information you want to glean from the passage, through a variety of keywords. Don’t skim, but quickly determine if you need the information or not.”

Don’t get us wrong: the GRE isn’t that much fun, either. The GRE is a little bit longer than the GMAT, and it contains some pretty annoying vocabulary questions. But the good news is that the GRE doesn’t have any grammar-based questions, and the GRE quant section doesn’t require the same depth of reasoning as the GMAT. And as we discussed in a series of blog posts comparing the GRE and the GMAT, the GRE allows you to change your answers within each section… which means that the psychological and strategic challenges aren’t as fierce on the GRE as on the GMAT. Even though the GRE offers a more pleasant test-day experience than the GMAT, you’ll still need to take an organized, disciplined approach to the test. The GRE is an adaptive test — albeit in a slightly different way than the GMAT — which means that careless errors can cause disproportionate damage to your score. Don’t Skip Around Beware! Because the test is taken on a computer, you must answer each question to get to the next one. You can’t count on skipping a question to come back to later as a part of your test-taking strategy. However, as of July 11, 2017, you CAN choose your test section order. Pace Yourself: There are two important factors that can affect your score on the computer-adaptive sections of the test: Questions that appear earlier on the test count more than questions that appear later on the test. Questions you leave unanswered will lower your score.

Set a deadline and respect it: It can be professional deformation, but I think that everything is indefinite has no real fate. Including the above objective must have a deadline, until it must be complete. It helps a lot, especially if you’re the kind of person who gets excited at first, starts various initiatives, but who, in the absence of consistency, doesn’t make things happen in the end. The teacher should be fun, not monotonous: therefore, it is advisable to feel good then you start learning, dressing in something comfortable and position yourself in a room where you enjoy spending your time.
